What is a condensing boiler?
Generating more heat from the same amount of fuel, a condensing boiler will save you money on your heating bills when directly compared to a non-condensing boiler.
If you replace an old gas boiler with no controls, with an A-rated high-efficiency condensing boiler and full set of heating controls, you can dramatically reduce your home’s carbon dioxide emissions and save as much as £300 a year.
Not strictly a boiler type, the term ‘condensing boiler’ refers to an attribute your boiler can have. For example you can have a condensing combi boiler or a condensing conventional boiler. Under UK law, since 2005 all newly fitted gas boilers must be condensing.
How does a condensing boiler work?
Equipped with a larger heat exchanger, a condensing boiler uses heat from exhaust gases that would normally be released into the atmosphere through the flue. Condensing boilers make use of this latent heat, turning the water vapour from the exhaust gas into liquid condensate.
What are the advantages of condensing boilers?
Economical to run
Reduced carbon dioxide emissions
Simple to control
